DAvID LEFKoWITZ

I have a natural curiosity and a propensity for taking things apart, but credit years of experience working at my father’s Brooklyn metal shop for understanding how things are put together.

Despite schooling and a couple of professional accreditations, I am largely self-taught and not overly academic about my work. I aim squarely to evoke an emotional reaction from the user. My interiors have more in common with installation-art and fashion than with the traditional notion of design and decoration. I believe strongly in composition; employing point vs. counterpoint to provide some interesting measure of contrast. Sometimes, though, a design is a design simply because it just feels right. Ever unwilling to be complacent, I fight tenaciously to defend my convictions and the integrity of each project.

A minimalist to the core, but never at the expense of warmth or humanity. Modernism teaches us that form follows function and romanticism reminds us that beauty is a function. MiesĀ adopted the motto “Less is more”. Mine is “Less is more (more or less)”.

I have had the great fortune to work with well respected tastemakers such as Donna Karan, Elie Tahari / Theory, The Apartment Creative Agency, Tsao & McKown and AvroKO, to name but a few. My work has appeared in countless publications including Frame Magazine, Interior Design Magazine, Dwell Magazine, New York Magazine, Elle Decoration, The New York Times and Taschen’s New New York Interiors, as well as major motion pictures, broadcast television shows, music and news videos.

Years on my own as a design consultant, I am overjoyed to now be the creative director and a founding partner here at Constructive.

Also… I DJ.
